THE AMAHUACA OF THE AMAZON

As seen in The Guardian and National Geographic.

This documentary series captures the life of the Amahuaca, an indigenous community living in the Ucayali Province of the Peruvian Amazon. Shot over the course of 3 months in 2011 in villages along the Inuya river deep in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest.

Amahuaca communities survive and thrive living off the land, retaining their traditional ways of life whilst negotiating the ever-increasing pressure of modern capitalist development from outsiders such as loggers, oil and natural gas industries.

The images reveal a daily life that is both demanding and rewarding. The Amauhuaca prefer to remain in their villages despite many now working or going to school in nearby towns or cities. Time spent living in the village relies on cooperation and the sharing resources. These are some of the most self sustaining people on the planet. In contrast, the pressure from the outside world is encroaching on their territory now more than ever demanding they adapt to a more modern way of life.
